01 Feb History of the bowl making project
In 2003 I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF MEETING A COPPERSMITH AND SINGING-BOWL MAKER TON AKKERMANS FROM HOLLAND WHO HAS TAUGHT ME THE ART OF FORGING SINGING BOWLS AND HEALING INSTRUMENTS. MANY OF THESE NOW ACCOMPANY ME ON SOUND-WEAVING CONCERTS, EVENTS AND SOUND HEALING SESSIONS AND MANY OTHERS HAVE FOUND HOMES ALL ACROSS THE PLANET.
Ton has a background as a restauration copper- and blacksmith.
He was also a teacher of children with special needs. In his exploration to assist the children with fine pure sounds that open the hearing and the brain, he started experimenting with forging metal instruments himself to create these pure sounds.
On this journey he began to have flashbacks and memories of making singingbowls in ancient Tibet, being taught by the elders of an ancient lineage of Singingbowl makers in a very long and rigorous apprenticeship in a tibetan monestary at Mt Kailash.
His memories as a master bowl-maker in Tibet showed him how each bowl was made very intentionally in deep meditative work – each for a very specific purpose – be it to accompany one monk on his spiritual journey of awakening or for a specified use in a temple or village.
Some of the larger and very powerful bowls were hammered by several master craftsmen – maybe even over generations – only at certain times – imbuing them with special vibrational tasks for different times.
Ton felt the impulse to craft singing bowls and other healing metal instruments that specifically vibrate with frequencies needed for this Time now and to teach the wisdom of this ancient lineage, which now he dedicates his life to.
He gives bowl making workshops, sound healing concerts and sound workshops with his many handcrafted instruments.
He also teaching about re-tuning the old bowls that have been brought from the east to the west for new purposes in this new time we are in now.
I had the priviledge and pleasure to train with Ton for many years. After 7 years he asked me to start teaching as well, so that more new high vibrational instruments can be brought forward creating the vibrational field of the Future.
In 2010 I was joined by Quentin Cowen and Heather Smith Cowen in the endeavour to set up a forge and we made instruments and gave workshops together in the UK from 2010 for 5 years. After that very productive and educative time
Quentin took the skills into his own direction http://quentincowen.co.uk/ while Heather and I continued giving workshops all over Europe and the UK.
Ton continues to give workshops and healing sessions – mainly in Holland and central Europe – together with his partner Carolina: Their website is https://www.klankcreatie.nl/
